The questions that matter

A statin decision is rarely short of opinions.

The difficult part is knowing which apply to you, which tests matter, and what your own numbers actually justify.

01

Should I trust my 10-year risk score?

02

What does my CAC score actually mean?

03

Is Lp(a) worth checking?

04

Are the side effects real?

05

Can I try lifestyle changes first?

06

What should I actually ask my doctor?

These questions require context, judgement, and a clear framework.

The framework

A better way to think about the decision.

Not isolated facts โ€” one structured process that moves you from an unclear number to an informed decision.

1

Baseline risk

What's actually driving your risk โ€” not just your cholesterol number.

2

Time horizon

Lifetime risk, not just the 10-year number you've likely been shown.

3

Your own attitude

A genuine values question โ€” there's no single correct answer.

About Dr Paddy Barrett

There is only your risk, and what you do about it.

MB BCh BAO, BCH, MRCPI, FESC ยท Preventive Cardiologist

Dr Barrett is a preventive cardiologist who has helped thousands of people understand their risk of heart disease. After training in interventional cardiology, he shifted his focus upstream โ€” toward preventing the outcomes that intervention exists to treat.

With over 20 years in clinical practice and research, he built this course to cut through the noise around statins and give people a clear, evidence-based way to decide.

The goal is not to frighten you, overwhelm you, or hand you another list of rules. It's to help you understand what matters, what doesn't, and what to do next.

Before you decide

This is not for everyone.

It's worth being honest about who this suits before you spend anything.

This is for you if

  • You've recently been offered a statin, or seen a borderline result.
  • You want a structured way to think it through, not just an opinion.
  • You're open to either outcome โ€” starting a statin, or lifestyle first.
  • You want specific questions ready for your next appointment.

This isn't for you if

  • You already have diagnosed heart disease โ€” talk to your specialist directly.
  • You're having chest pain or other acute symptoms โ€” seek emergency care.
  • You want to be told what to do, rather than equipped to decide.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know.

What does it cost, and what happens after I pay?

The course is โ‚ฌ97, paid once โ€” there is no subscription. Access is granted immediately after payment; you'll receive login details by email and can start straight away on desktop, tablet, or phone. Access is for life.

Can I cancel, and how do refunds work?

You can cancel within 14 days of purchase without giving a reason, for a full refund to your original payment method. Email to request this.

Is this course going to tell me whether I should take a statin?

No โ€” deliberately. It gives you a structured framework and the real evidence so you can decide with your own doctor. Two people with identical numbers can reasonably land on different answers.

I've already been diagnosed with heart disease โ€” is this course for me?

Not primarily. This course is built for primary prevention. Talk to your specialist directly if you have existing heart disease.

What if I have familial hypercholesterolemia (FH)?

The same framework still applies โ€” an FH diagnosis means you're starting from a higher baseline risk. This is addressed directly inside the course.

I'd rather try lifestyle changes first โ€” does this course support that?

Yes. A full module covers the lifestyle-first pathway as a legitimate option, with a clear structure so it has a defined endpoint.

How long does the course take?

About 63 minutes total, split into 9 lessons of 5โ€“8 minutes each. Built to pause and resume easily.

Will I have access to Dr Barrett personally?

No. This is a library of content built to inform a discussion with your own doctor. Accessing this course does not constitute a doctor-patient relationship.

What if I don't have a cardiologist?

That's fine โ€” most people can work with their own primary care provider, who can arrange a specialist referral if needed.
